Flying to Cyprus
Travellers to the Republic of Cyprus may enter only through the legal points of entry: Larnaca and Paphos International Airports, or the Larnaca and Limassol ports. Flight time from London to Larnaca is 4.5 hours; from Frankfurt, 3.5 hours; from Athens, 1 hour and 35 minutes; from New York, 11 hours; from Tel-Aviv 45 minutes. There are daily connections to London (BA, Cyprus Airways), Amsterdam (KLM/CA), Athens (CA, Olympic), Frankfurt (LH), Tel Aviv (CA, ElAl), Rome or Milan (CA/Alitalia), Vienna (Austrian), and frequent connections to Paris, Zurich, Moscow, etc. It is suggested that you use the Larnaca International Airport (airport code LCA), which is the closest airport to Nicosia (49 km). It takes approximately 45 minutes from the Larnaca Airport to Nicosia City Centre. Larnaca Airport is the one that is served by airlines from all over the world, including both scheduled airlines such as British Airways, Austrian Airlines, MEA, Emirates, Cyprus Airways, and Aegean Airlines, and budget airlines including Monarch, EasyJet and RyanAir.
From the Airport to Nicosia
The cheapest way to get to Nicosia from the two Cyprus airports is by a shuttle service called Kapnos (please visit the company’s website for further information, Kapnos Airport Shuttle). To get to Nicosia you can take a bus (Kapnos Airport Shuttle), which will drop you off at the center of the town where you can take a taxi to your hotel. The bus fare will cost 7 euros and you may need an additional 7-10 euros for the taxi (from the bus stop to your hotel).
You can also take a taxi, but this will be more expensive. There is a taxi stand as you come out of the arrivals’ hall. If you decide to take a taxi from Larnaca Airport to Nicosia, you might want to pre-book it to ensure there are no arguments with taxi drivers over the legitimate fare. You can do this online at Suntransfers Taxis.
Nicosia, the host city, is the capital of Cyprus, a beautiful Mediterranean island in the south-east cornerstone of Europe. Nicosia itself deserves a visit for its mediaeval walls, its narrow streets and its many tavernas where you can find delicious traditional Cypriot food and wine. It is a rather small city of 250 000 people with hot summer days but cool evenings, excellent services, infrastructure and organization. The city is 40 minutes away from some of the best beaches in the world and only about an hour away from some of the oldest surviving wall and floor mosaics in the world.
